Hi Dan,
Currently it requires somewhat specialised equipment to clock a car. However, I suspect that no matter what safeguards manufacturers implement to prevent clocking, as long as there is sufficient finanical gain, unscrupulous persons will find a workaround. The real elephant in the room is that it is legal to clock a car in Ireland.

It beggars the question; Why does the manufacturer make it so easy to change the odometer?

While buying a used car one has to be more careful than for new one. The above tips are very helpful for the used car buyer.

Hi Stephen,
Since you have not performed a Cartell Car Check on this vehicle we cannot provide specific advice. I see that the car was first registered in late 2004. For a six year old diesel car we would predict that the odometer should be approaching 90,000 miles. It's quite possible that the previous owner did not drive much, however, there are several previous owners on this car so this scenario is less likely. I would certainly check the service history and verify it with each garage that stamped the book. In addition you might ring Peugeot to see if they have any information on their systems that may help. Getting the car looked at either by a Peugeot garage or an engineer may provide expert opinion and advice. Obviously the person that sold the car should be of assistance, but, if you have bought it privately you may find that avenue difficult.
