Hi Stephen,
Since this data was sourced in the UK you will need to contact the UK National Mileage Register (NMR), operated by HPI. On the HPI web site there is useful help information regarding mileage checks. To take an excerpt from the help section:

Q: I believe that a previous mileage entered on your database is incorrect. Can it be changed?
A: In order to best protect you, mileages cannot be removed without evidence to prove they are incorrect. If you think written information that proves a mileage reading is wrong (e.g. Service History, MOT) please supply HPI with a copy of the proof and we will be happy to evaluate and remove the reading where appropriate

As you assume that the data error may have originated with the DVLA you may need to correct the error on the DVLA system so that your mileage history on all relying mileage databases is corrected.

Here is some contact details for HPI and the DVLA

I am currently in the process of selling my car however the potential buyer has identified a milage discrepancy input onto the register 7 days following my purchase in 2007. I assume that this is an administrative error either mis reading the V5 doc from the DVLA or a wrongly typed entry. Exactly what evidence is required to retrospectively correct the register?

I have scanned copies of service history book, history guarentee from previous owner (matches stamps in book) and previous MOT prior to purchase 2007. My HPI check prior to 2007 purchase found no discrepancies therefore i must assume this to be an administrative error now delaying my sale.

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for the comment. The PTB are not a Gov. Dept. but an acronym of "Powers That Be", i.e. Management. Here is the etymology of PTB, however, you would have to thank Joss Whedon for its more recent popularity!

Nice article. It is good to see that someone is trying to stop car clocking.
One thing bugs me, what is the "PTB" is it a government dept?
